

In order to discuss urgent issues impacting public service workers, the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana, conveyed its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Kumasi Adeambra, bringing together Regional Executive officers of the Union, Divisional representatives, staffs and National leadership of the Union.
The gathering offered a forum for reviewing the union’s operations, evaluating the difficulties members face, and establishing future strategic goals. The growing cost of living, pay negotiations, working conditions, and the necessity of more vigorous campaigning to safeguard the welfare of public sector employees were the main issues for discussion.
In order to navigate the current economic environment, Bro. Benard Adjei, General Secretary in his opening remark stressed the value of unity and solidarity. He reiterated PSWU’s dedication to enhancing collective bargaining tactics, growing training and capacity-building initiatives.
Bro. Dr. Ken T. Koduah, National Chairperson reminded NEC members of their collective responsibilities to safeguard the rights and welfare of workers,” He noted. “We must remain resilient and proactive in engaging government and stakeholders to secure fair wages and improved conditions of service.” He again reminded members that NEC meeting is a time to reflect on the previous activity year and to make amend were necessary.
In his address, Bro. Dr. Kwabena Otoo, Deputy Secretary General, appreciated the efforts of leadership in organizing the NEC meeting, emphasizing the importance of unity and resilience in the face of economic challenges confronting public service workers. He reminded NEC members that solidarity remains the foundation of the union’s strength and urged members to continue standing together in pursuit of fair wages, decent working conditions, and respect for the dignity of labor.

The NEC members found great resonance in his message, which strengthened the union’s resolve to step up advocacy activities and safeguard the welfare of its members across the country.
Organizing new divisions (Organized and unorganized), Divisional Conferences and Divisional Executive Council (DEC) messtings, Training of elected divisional officers, youth and women capacity building, review of collective agreements, Tema project and staff retreats are among priorities set for the year 2026.
Additionally, the NEC meeting promised to keep enhancing members abilities to increase their effectiveness both inside the union and at work. The meeting in Adiembra, Kumasi demonstrated PSWU’s will to advance the interests of its members nationwide while remaining steadfast in the face of economic difficulties.
